This year, the Berlin Art Prize will be making its debut as an independent annual award devoted to recognizing artistic talent within Berlin.

The Berlin Art Prize is by the people and for the people—some of the art community’s own founded the prize in order to breed support without corporate influence. The award presents a chance for artists who do not have the opportunity to gain recognition from large institutions.

A panel of art professionals will select three winners based on the artistic merit of their work. Winners will be awarded with an exhibition, representation in a catalog, prize money, and a two-week residency in a villa in San Martino, Italy. In addition, 20 shortlisted artists will be receive exposure in the exhibition and catalog. Take note, newcomers: the award is only eligible to those living in Berlin for six months.
